field of dreams

Yesterday Carrie and I, along with the lovely Amber Neal, set out in search of the perfect location for our impromptu photo shoot.  Abandoned spaces, a long forgotten amusement park, smelly floral furniture on the side of the road, and waist deep fields of sage grass.  I am beginning realize there's no shortage of adventure in photography, and that's fine by me.

kennedy prints | kentuck festival of arts

October is  my favorite part of the year, the time when I make my annual trip to Northport Alabama & the Kentuck Festival of Arts.  Over the years I have gotten to know many of the artist and the best part is that I now call many friends.  This year, I finally got the chance to meet Amos Paul Kennedy Jr. of Kennedy Prints.  Mr. Kennedy is a character... and I mean that in the best possible way.  Of course his prints are wonderful, but he's what keeps you lingering.  There's no shortage of laughter & fun in his booth.

I was very excited to try my hand at printing, and to be able to walk away with a poster that I printed.  I also bought the "Okra is the People's Vegetable" poster.  I believe it sums up my summer, and the massive amounts of okra we ate around here!

wilderness

Sometimes you have to get away from it all, to appreciate all that you have.  Deep in the woods of Northwestern Alabama... we hiked and camped for the weekend, in The Sipsey Wilderness.

After forgoing the tent and sleeping in our hammocks , we may never use the tent again.  Now to buy the extras, like bug netting & insulators.

Thanks to my sweetheart for the lovely pictures of me.

where did it all come from?

Do I really want all this stuff?  And where did it all come from?

Two weeks of moving...
It would be impossible for me to be a minimalist, because I see memories in tangible objects.  Little things that I've picked up, on past vacations, or an afternoon spent doing something that I enjoy.

into the woods

A little cabin in the woods, a place to get away from it all.
Fully stocked with all of the essentials... firewood, bourbon & hot sauce.
